Welcome to VectorByte – a blog exploring cutting edge genomics in healthcare. After working in medical laboratories for 8 years (with 5 of these in genomics), I still find myself explaining what I do to family and friends, which demonstrates the need for scientists and medical professionals to engage more with patients and the public.
With this blog, my aim is to help communicate the latest science behind genomics, as well as occasionally indulging in discussing new and emerging technology and scientific discoveries from other disciplines.
As personalized medicine is on the horizon (in some cases already here!), and technology for interrogating the genome advancing at an astronomical rate, keeping up is difficult enough for healthcare professionals let alone the general public! Ideally, this blog will help to bridge the gap between scientists and the public and foster discussion about the place of genomics in healthcare.
